Who Says You Can’t Go Off-Road In Luxury?
Toyota’s luxury division – Lexus – has been turning heads for the past thirty-five years, since it began production in 1989. With its knack for offering drivers premium features and amenities, it never ceases to amaze. One thing that may surprise most vehicle shoppers about Lexus models is their ability to leave the road for the path less traveled, but who says you cannot go off-road in luxury? Money Inc explores five Lexus models worth traversing on the unbeaten path. Explore which Lexus model suits you best.
Lexus IS
You don’t have to go big to enjoy the luxury off-road experience that Lexus offers. Lexus sedan models like the Lexus IS provide drivers with all-wheel drive (AWD) as standard. These vehicles will most likely be used as daily drivers. Thanks to the AWD powertrain that kicks into gear when you need a little oomph and the inline-4 turbocharged engine, the Lexus IS offers decent off-road capability.
Lexus RC
If you want a performance car with a rugged edge, the Lexus RC is an excellent option. It is important to note that the RC has the option for AWD. This, of course, will cost extra but assists in these model trims to perform off-road. For even more power, you can also opt for a V6 engine in the RC.
Lexus GX
For drivers who truly want a Lexus luxury SUV that is no stranger to venturing off-road, the Lexus GX provides top-notch off-road capabilities. This vehicle seems to perform better on the trail than on the road. While it may not be the best performer for day-to-day driving, the GX still shines as one of Lexus’ premium off-road vehicles. For an ultimate trail-ride experience, Car and Driver say you should opt for Overtrail and Overtrail+ trims in the 2024 Lexus GX. These features include an aluminum skid plate, an adaptive suspension system with more wheel articulation, 18-inch wheels with 33-inch All-Terrain tires, a crawl-control feature, and selectable drive modes for differing terrains.
Lexus RX
Another SUV to consider among Lexus off-road models is the Lexus RX. On the brand’s site, Lexus highlights, aside from the RX’s AWD, two key features that help the RX perform on the trail — its F Sport Handling and Adaptive Variable Suspension. The F Sport Handling enables the RX to perform on a variety of terrains, thanks to the F Sport Handling’s Adaptive Variable Suspension and customizable drive modes. This suspension type is only found in the F Sport trim and is perfect for driving in different road conditions.
Lexus LX
Last but certainly not least is the Lexus LX. Lexus boasts of the LX‘s twin-turbo V6 engine as well as the suite of off-road performing features. Like the RX, the LX also has F Sport Handling.
