Ahigher-tuned version of this engine (for the IS 350) makes 311 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. It is mated to an eight-speed or six-speed automatic transmission.

The top-of-the-line IS 500 uses a 5.0-liter V8 with 32 valves and dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence. Its 472 horsepower and 395 lb-ft of torque drive the rear wheels using an eight-speed sport direct-shift automatic transmission with paddle shifters.
